Harris and many surrounding counties suffered damage from the April 26, 2024 straight-line storms and from Hurricane Beryl in early July. Because of these significant storms the IRS extended the due date of all income tax returns and estimated tax payment due dates, as follows:
Due November 1, 2024
2024 2nd quarter estimated tax payment
Due February 3, 2025
2023 Individual tax return (Form 1040)
2023 Gift Tax return (Form 709)
2023 Trust & Estate tax returns (Form 1041)
2023 Partnership tax return (Form 1065)
2023 Corporation tax return (Form 1120)
2023 S Corporation tax return (Form 1120S)
2024 3rd quarter estimated tax payment
2024 4th quarter estimated tax payment
Although the due date for your individual or business income tax return has been extended, we prefer to prepare your tax return now, and strongly encourage you to provide all your 2023 data as soon as possible. Completion of your 2023 return now has several advantages including:
- Interest runs at 8% annually on any balance due, despite the filing date extension
- Providing data now allows time to fully resolve any questions or issues
- IRS system closes electronic filing from Thanksgiving until the end of January; e-filing is best
- We are much more available to work with you now than in October or beyond
